The teamplay digital health platform

The teamplay digital health platform wants to be the universal and cross-domain platform from Siemens Healthineers, which builds the foundation for the networking of all integrated and connected platforms, applications and services. This comprises cloud-based and on-premise solutions. With this universal and comprehensive platform, we offer an outstanding infrastructure as a service that allows our internal and external partners to concentrate better on their domain-specific business and customer needs as well as on the cleanliness of their code.

The technologies depicted in the image above are especially driving the Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem including its major pillar the teamplay digital health platform.

But there are much more details on how to benefit further from the teamplay Digital Platform like the following.

State-of-the-art cloud solutions

We rely on a server-less application model to expedite development, and as a result, developers have a very short path from coding to actual operation of their code.

The teamplay digital health platform infrastructure is based on cloud solutions from Microsoft Azure. Siemens Healthineers uses Microsoft Azure to make solutions more accessible, and it uses Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and other Azure tools for a fast, efficient and competitive development pipeline.

With the underlying Azure PaaS approach (Platform as a Service) the teamplay digital health platform infrastructure can adapt its scaling flexible to the actual demand.

Support for edge workloads

The teamplay digital health platform also comprises an edge solution. The solution allows deploying and managing workloads at the edge within a customer's network from the cloud. By applying this solutions our business partners are able to augment their applications with several edge extensions. Our edge extensions are automatically provisioned and monitored. They enable deep integration into your customers' environments.

High security standards

In order to be able to handle sensitive data like personal information or even patient health information we take IT security and data privacy very serious. We invest a lot of effort in these areas, for example in external compliance certifications according to important standards like the security standard ISO 27001/17/18 or the European Privacy Seal (EuroPriSe).

Our underlying platform provider Microsoft Azure also supports many global and regional standards. Microsoft Azure has numerous certifications that meet the needs of our customers and partners.

Continuous integration and delivery

We follow continuous delivery practices to ensure high availability and rapid development of our services.
Our microservices approach, which is based on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and an established approach for site reliability engineering are important building blocks for our service quality.

Tailored to the healthcare domain

The teamplay digital health platform is used by Siemens Healthineers and our partners across many disciplines in the healthcare domain. We focus on standard resource models and interfaces such as FHIR/HL7 and DICOM Web to ensure easy workflow integration and high compatibility.

A growing world of APIs and services

The provided services and applications allow partners and their customers to securely process data within and outside of a hospital's network.

Some of the basic, foundational functionalities are:

  • User authentication and authorization, single sign-on

  • Centralized administration

  • Messaging and communication

  • Data storage and management

Basic capabilities of our APIs and services are:

  • User authentication, user authorization, single sign-on

  • Centralized administration

  • Messaging and communication

  • Data storage and management

We are continuously working on integrating further parts of our extensive software portfolio into the teamplay digital health platform. One of our next steps will be connecting on-premise products to cloud-based applications and services. This will provide you a seamless user experience across the full range of your functions and products.

Optimized business prospects at attractive and predictable costs

On the one hand, the use of Microsoft Azure services as an underlying platform improves the general security and availability of the systems. It also allows us to streamline the entire development lifecycle.
On the other hand, the use of Microsoft Azure services helps us and our partners optimize the total cost of ownership. Furthermore, we and our partners can discover new business models and ultimately offer better prices that meet the needs of our customers.

Making the best use of data

We continuously leverage our latest innovations in the Microsoft Azure cloud in order to cope with the huge challenges that we are facing in the current and that we will be facing in the future healthcare industry.
For example, in the space of data storage and processing technologies, the Azure Storage Data Lake Gen2, Azure Cosmos DB and Azure HDInsights with Apache Spark are currently used to handle huge amounts of data. This approach allows us and our partners to be cost effectively, highly secure, highly available as well as such as fast that even the most demanding scenarios with the huge amount of aggregated data can be realized .

The built-in replication capabilities not only allow to guarantee high availability of the data, but also help to avoid unnecessary redundancies. They ensure fast access and allow dedicated sharing of data.

Hardware and software requirements

The teamplay portal and its associated applications are compatible with tablets, PCs and Mac computers running modern browsers in the current version such as the following:

  • Chrome

  • Firefox

  • Safari

  • Microsoft Edge

Minimum hardware requirements are only applicable when fetching data using the DICOM method Query / Retrieve (DICOM Q/R). If applicable for your application, ask your partner management for a recent version of the teamplay Data sheet.

For applications such as teamplay Images that actively sent data using DICOM C-Store, the clinical institutions that use these applications need to contact their Siemens Healthineers service representative in advance.
